School-based telehealth for nine rural Virginia schools

Telemedicine carts at every K-5 school plus middle and high schools let students see a provider without leaving campus.

01The challenge

The Region 7 consortium faces high poverty and limited access to care. Many families have limited transportation, so a sick student often means a missed day for the student and a parent.

02The solution

InCare worked with Radford City and Bristol City schools to fund and implement telemedicine carts with a monitor, tracking camera, codec, stethoscope, scopes, and a touch controller at nine school sites.

03The result

School-based providers can now hold telehealth visits on campus, which improves access to care and attendance. A second phase is planned.

“When you take time to come to Radford when you’re an hour and a half away and you could easily do a Zoom call… it’s a personal touch that we just don’t receive from other organizations.”
Robert Graham, Radford City Schools
